Not wanting to shrink their backyard with a large enclosed garage, the concept of a carport addressed the need of providing shelter to their cars during the winter months but also provided an extension to their backyard when the cars were not parked. A vertical sliding screen provides the space with light and access to the alley while also providing security to the back yard. The construction of the carport is conceived using conventional 2x4 studs. The staggered truss design mimics the inverse of the adjacent garage roof peaks, while it’s off axis peak breaks up the regularity of the trusses. With clients in the flower business, the design incorporate a custom flower graphic air brushed into the underside of the transparent roofing material giving a multicolour diffuse glow during sunny days.
